OUR MISSION AND VISION

MISSION
WHY DO WE EXIST?

The mission of Vandalia Baptist Temple is to build bridges to every generation, culture and community with the Gospel of Christ.  This mission is rooted in the commission and purpose that the Lord Jesus Christ gave to His church (Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8).  Everything we do as a church is intended to fulfill this mission.

Bridges exist to help people move from where they are to where they want to be.  In ministry, our desire is to provide the means for individuals, regardless of their age, nationality, or ethnicity, to go from where they are to where God wants them to be in their spiritual journey.  Those who are unsaved or unchurched can be challenged to come to Christ in a personal way.  Those who know Christ are given the means to mature spiritually and deepen their personal walk with the Lord.  As Christians begin to grow and mature they are then provided multiple opportunities in which they can use their gifts and talents to serve and reach others in our community.

Our mission requires that we, as a church body, be committed to pursuing diversity (within our ministries) and multiplication (as disciples, and as a ministry).  As we do, we will get to experience a little foretaste of Heaven.

Revelation 5:9

And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation

Revelation 7:9

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

We cannot force anyone to take a step of faith and cross a spiritual “bridge” in their life.  But we do all that we can to make the next step as clear and simple as possible.

Church life and ministry can become increasingly busy and complex.  If we are not careful, we can become distracted in trying to do so much that we fail to do the most important.  The fact is, “the more we do, the less we accomplish.”

That is why our pastoral and leadership teams strive to be laser-focused on the purposes and objectives that are most important.  Our purpose is not to do everything (no church can), but to pursue excellence and effectiveness in what God has given us to do.

VISION
WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Our vision is rooted in our mission, which is all about diversity and multiplication.  As we make disciples that make disciples, this will naturally lead to planting churches that plant churches.  It is the biblical result of obeying the Great Commission.

The vision of Vandalia Baptist Temple is to plant multiplying, multicultural churches all around the Miami Valley and beyond.  It is not about growing our church, but multiplying our church.  We are committed to thinking beyond our church walls, and beyond our city limits.  God’s plan is for us to “be fruitful and multiply,” not only as disciples, but as a local church.  That is the model we see in the New Testament.

This will require generosity and sacrifice from our church and its members.  It will require that every member be engaged in relational discipleship (through a Journey Group) and be willing to be “sent,” either as part of a church-planting team, or as a “backyard missionary” to where he or she lives, works, plays, studies and does life.  Missions is the heartbeat of God, and is also the heartbeat of Vandalia Baptist Temple.
